Building More Than Structures: Swinerton’s 12-Year Partnership with Little Bit
Written by Victoria Giomi, External Communications Specialist, Regional (PNW), Swinerton
Swinerton’s relationship with Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center began in 2013. At the time, our team was searching for an organization that truly aligned with Swinerton’s values—one that strengthens our communities and makes a lasting impact on people’s lives. From the moment we learned Little Bit’s mission, we knew we had found an ideal partnership.
Little Bit does more than just help children and adults with disabilities. They provide a true sanctuary for them and their families, offering therapeutic horseback riding and equine-assisted activities to foster confidence, independence, and healing. They also support families with a welcoming community and resources that set participants up for success. For Swinerton, working with Little Bit isn’t just a volunteer opportunity—it’s a way to deepen our connection to the community and contribute to something bigger than ourselves.
A Decade of Building Together
Over the past 12 years, Swinerton has proudly provided construction services and support to Little Bit, helping maintain and improve their facilities so they can continue their life-changing work. Every year, our team looks forward to spending a full day at Little Bit, rolling up our sleeves to assist with upgrades and improvements. Our contributions have included:
· Over 20 loafing sheds for horses
· Arena repairs and rail installations around the horse track
· ADA-compliant ramps to ensure accessibility
· Landscaping improvements to create a safe and inviting environment
· Construction of a lifting platform and upgrades to the indoor arena
· Interactive riding trail for adaptive riding sessions
· Hill for therapy treatments
These projects are more than tasks on a checklist—they’re opportunities to give back and strengthen bonds within our team and community.
Building with Heart—and a Little Friendly Competition
One of our Swinerton team’s most memorable moments at Little Bit was a friendly competition to build the best loafing shed. Three Swinerton teams jumped in, and the energy was electric. Even the parents of one of the riders joined the fun, inspired by the camaraderie and teamwork.
The day ended with laughter, productivity, and a shared sense of purpose—and brought an unexpected surprise: a parent, moved by Swinerton’s positivity and commitment, made a direct donation to Little Bit, sparked by the joy we all felt in making a difference.
Why We Keep Coming Back
“Each time we volunteer with Little Bit, we are reminded why we keep going back,” said Vice President, Division Manager, Nick Vovakes. “The work they do is so important and is truly making a difference in people’s lives. We are fortunate to be able to support their mission, and I am proud of the strong partnership we have formed and look forward to many more years together.”
Our commitment to Little Bit is about more than construction—it’s about building hope, confidence, and community. Here’s to many more years of partnership and impact.
