Kristy Uddin
Board of Trustees
Kristy Uddin started volunteering at Little Bit eight years ago. In 2020, she attended Little Bit’s first virtual auction and knew she wanted to get involved again. She has now been a board member for four years and has served as secretary for two of those years.
The mission and how Little Bit clients are treated, with the therapeutic use of horse and self, initially drew her interest. As a pediatric occupational therapist with her own horses, she loved seeing those two things together.
There are many things Kristy enjoys about her involvement with Little Bit. She has volunteered at the community holiday-drive through and loves seeing the kids and parents and how their faces light up at the dressed-up horses. She has also been a volunteer judge for Little Bit’s annual Margo O’Callaghan Memorial Dressage Show and gotten to share the enjoyment of the participants. “Not only the kids but the spectators, just to see the difference that they know that environment is making.”
“It’s always special when I’m out there watching,” says Kristy. “There’s just this sense of belonging when you walk in there.”
Kristy shares that one of her most memorable moments was the excitement of the first time she successfully procured an item for the annual auction. Kristy remains an active auction volunteer, helping procure auction items to raise funds for Little Bit.
Kristy shares another memorable moment from her time on the board was the ribbon cutting for newly renovated hay barn. “That was very exciting, and so great that our names are up there on the barn, and all the people that contributed, whether money or the people that built the barn. That was a really memorable moment.”
Kristy loves introducing people to Little Bit. She always brings people to the auction to help educate them on Little Bit services and share what Little Bit means to her. She feels this is important for both fundraising and awareness.
“It’s about the wellbeing of the horses and the wellbeing of the clients,” Kristy shares. She feels that what makes being a part of the Little Bit Board of Trustees so special is that it’s usually just one of those dynamics and not both. As part of the board, Kristy has seen more involvement over the years, both coming to the auction and donating. “Anyone and everyone who knows about Little Bit and can talk about it. . . we’re just educating more people to fall in love with the program and the location like I did.”
“Overall, I’m just really glad to be a part of it. In all the capacities that Little Bit can help people therapeutically: mental health, physical, occupational, speech-therapy, whether it’s on or off a horse, that’s just really amazing to me.”
