Little Bit Board of Trustees Chair
Colleen and Jocelyn’s Little Bit story - Submitted by Colleen Willis
Happy 50th birthday Little Bit!
I am Colleen, the Little Bit board chair in 2026 and parent of a rider, Jocelyn, who has been riding at Little Bit for almost 30 years. Jocelyn was diagnosed with Cri du Chat Syndrome, which causes her global delays. We feel incredibly lucky to have found a recreation activity that has been a consistent joy in Jocelyn’s life since she was a preschooler. She started sitting taller, gesturing with purpose and steering her walk consistently within the first few years. Now, it is all about the positive energy that radiates from the horses, volunteers, staff, and in Jocelyn’s demeanor on riding days.
It probably seems obvious then why I joined the board in 2021. I want this wonderful organization to continue to thrive and provide programs and therapies for individuals with diverse abilities. That’s definitely true.
But also in 2024, I was diagnosed with a rare cancer. As you may imagine, the greatest fear of a parent is not being around when you are needed. While everybody’s life expectancy is uncertain, I am more committed than ever to building a caring network of support and compassion around Jocelyn. This network is exemplified by Little Bit, a place where individuals are empowered, celebrated, and given the tools to enhance their lives. It is the commitment to this community that drives me each day.
As we celebrate Little Bit's 50th birthday, I reflect on the transformative impact this organization has made over the years. From Jocelyn’s hippotherapy as a preschooler to innovative COVID equine physical therapies, and now adaptive riding, Little Bit has been a beacon of hope and joy for countless families, including mine.
