Pat Flynn Memorial Horse Show - June 21-22, 2008 The Pat Flynn Memorial Horse Show, named for a Little Bit rider from the early 1980's. This event is a great opportunity for our riders to 'show their stuff.' This competition offers riders from all over the region the opportunity to compete in Equitation, Hunter Hack, Obstacle and Costume classes. Little Bit Riders should check with their instructors to determine which classes are appropriate for their level.Class and event sponsorships are available starting at $100. A barbeque is held immediately following the last class on Saturday from 4-7pm for riders, volunteers, family and friends, complete with live music! Visitors are always welcome.Community participation makes this event possible. To ensure the safety and success of our show, volunteers are needed to assist riders, judges and staff. We also look for sponsors to off-set the expenses of putting on our show, the only opportunity that many of our riders have to show off their hard work. Special thanks to Windermere for bringing out a crew of people each year to help clean up the facility and prepare for the show. If you are interested in competing, volunteering or sponsoring this event, please stop by our facility or call our office at 425-882-1554. Margo O'Callaghan Memorial Dressage Show - June 28-29, 2008 The Margo O’Callaghan Memorial Dressage Show offers an opportunity for dressage riders with disabilities a chance to showcase their skills. As the only dressage show specifically for riders with disabilities, it will enable riders at any therapeutic riding center (or riders with a ParaEquestrian classification) to compete against other riders with similar abilities and riding skills. It is designed to be a professional, formal atmosphere with judges who are trained specifically for ParaEquestrian competition. This show will provide a venue for both riders who are still developing their dressage skills (and may still ride with aides), as well as for the highly experienced riders looking to compete alongside their peers, in a setting where all riders will be judged on their performance alone, regardless of ability or disability. This show, established in 2007 and named in honor of Little Bit rider Margo O’Callaghan, is a way to capture the spirit of a woman who led the way for so many other riders. Her life personified the Little Bit mission and inspired hundreds of riders both here and across the country to never give up. She was a teacher, therapeutic riding advocate and friend of all who knew her and she lived a life that inspired everyone around her to reach for their own dreams and see challenges as opportunities. It is with great pride that we host the Margo O’Callaghan
Memorial Dressage Show. For more information, please contact
Jenny Nell Schulte at 425-882-1554. Little Bit Day at the Races - Saturday, July 26, 2008 Join the Little Bit staff and some of our equine therapists as we head to Emerald Downs for Little Bit Day at the Races to raise awareness about therapeutic riding. This is an opportunity to educate the horse community about the benefits of therapeutic riding first hand. Families are encouraged to come and enjoy a great day of fun events offered by Emerald Downs, including face painting and a moonwalk for kids. Come support Little Bit and our super horses, riders, and volunteers! Student Rider Campaign This Summer Quarter fundraising campaign is when we ask our student riders to solicit cash donations. The tuition that we charge our riders is only 25% of the actual cost of the ride. This is the time we ask riders to help "Pony Up" the difference. Special games or obstacle courses make their regular riding time extra special for the riders. The final results will be announced and the prizes will be awarded during the last week of summer quarter. Emerald Downs Run the Mile - Saturday, August 16, 2008 Emerald Downs will be offering anyone interested the opportunity to "sink their hooves" into the same dirt as the thoroughbreds, and test their time at 16 furlongs on the one-mile oval track. Usually reserved exclusively for thoroughbreds, this is the only time during the year that Emerald Down invites the public to run (or walk) their track. This year's event will benefit Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. Registration is $10 in advance ($15 day of race) and includes a barbecue lunch, tour, t-shirt and free admission and programs to the 70th Running of the Longacres Mile on Sunday the 19th. There is a pledge form included in the entry brochure allowing runners to solicit donations for Little Bit. To register, or for more information, visit the Emerald Downs website (www.emeralddowns.com) under Season Events. Holiday Party - Sunday, December 14, 2008 This annual event brings the Little Bit community together to share in the joy of the season. Held at the end of Fall Quarter, in December, riders, parents, volunteers and staff come together for a pot luck lunch and a visit from Santa. We have a stall decorating contest, ornament exchange, and the horse of the year is announced.
