You can Make a DifferenceThere are many opportunities to make a difference here at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. We need volunteers for our classes and for our events as well as financial help to keep our riders learning to ride. Contributions Count: How You Can Make a Difference While cash donations are always needed, there are many other ways to contribute, as well. Volunteer time is needed Monday thru Saturday in our classes as well as for our Special Events. From the feed store to the office supply store in-kind donations of items that would otherwise have to be purchased go a long way in helping us to keep our riding lessons affordable.
Little Bit receives no Federal, State, or undesignated United Way funding and must rely upon corporate and individual contributions, grants and the proceeds from fund-raising events to underwrite operational expenses. While a nominal tuition of $25.00 per lesson is charged to students (the actual cost is over $75 per lesson), a large number are unable to pay this fee. It is Little Bit's policy to make lessons available regardless of ability to pay, so these tuition needs are addressed through donations.
Your financial support is what allows Little Bit to subsidize 65% of the actual cost of lessons. This is a top priority for us as many of our families are already burdened with the high expenses related to the rider's disability. Your cash donation helps keep little miracles happening in our arena every day. Don't Forget . . . . A Little Bit Goes A Long Way Want To Donate A Horse? Thanks so much for your interest in placing your horse at the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center. It is only through the generosity of people like you that we can help our riders gain self-confidence, increase muscle tone and experience the thrill of riding a horse. To submit a horse for consideration, please contact us for a questionnaire/submission form. Below are some considerations to keep in mind regarding our requirements for horses:
It is important that your horse feel comfortable around a variety of people. Horses in our program are ridden for not more than three one-hour sessions a day. However, many people handle them over the course of each day. Several volunteers will groom and tack the horse. And in addition to the rider, a horse may have a leader and up to two side walkers. After reviewing the questionnaire, if we determine that your horse seems appropriate for our program, we will arrange a time to meet and ride the horse. At that time, if we think the horse seems suitable, we will ask for a 30-day trial period at Little Bit. Depending on the age of the horse, the trial period is sometimes longer. We appreciate you thinking of Little Bit as a placement for your horse.
